November 2004

Yankee Doodles

The new media zone of Munich’s Goetz Collection gallery goes all American this month, with exhibitions featuring the work of two US artists. The first, Richard Prince, works with photography, paint and sculpture to portray a wide variety of motifs, inspired by advertising, publicity photos and literary illustrations. Sounds diverse? As Prince once said: “I always thought my work would look like a giant magazine. There’d be a joke section, a photography section, a painting section…” Also featured in the BASE 103 section of the gallery is video-artist Doug Aitken, who presents a series of installations. Both exhibitions open on November 22 and run until January 22, 2005. They can be viewed by appointment only from Mon. to Fri. from 2 pm to 6 pm and on Saturdays from 11 am to 4 pm.
