Bloom in April

On June 16, 1904, Leopold Bloom, the protagonist of James Joyce’s masterpiece Ulysses, took a walk through Dublin. This year is the 100th anniversary of “Bloomsday”—an annual event for fans of Joyce—and to mark the occasion the Literaturhaus will be organizing a host of events. On April 21, Edna O’Brien will read from her biography of James Joyce. Later in the year there will be discussions of Ulysses by international experts and a spectacular concert. But the present focus of the Literaturhaus is to gather material for an upcoming exhibition inspired by Joyce and his epochal novel. The staff at the Literaturhaus are searching for anything from drawings, paintings, installations and video art to collector’s items such as photos, manuscripts, letters, postcards and clothes. If you wish to participate please send a photo of the item you wish to exhibit by post, fax or email to the Literaturhaus before May 10, together with a short description. The exhibition will be held from mid-May to mid-June. For contact details and a program of events visit www.literaturhaus-muenchen.de.
