Take a step in the right direction, to Bad Tölz, the internationally renowned health spa, where Nordic Walking is all the rage: the new fitness trend from Finland, that is a total body workout, similar to cross-country skiing, but without skis and snow. Its effectiveness is considered to be similar to jogging without the stress on the knees and twice as effective as normal fitness walking, without poles. In the Nordic.Fitness.Park Tölzer Land, the natural fitness studio consisting of six scenic tours varying from 2.3–11.5 km and rated easy to difficult has signs posted recommending effective exercises along the way. Shoulder and chest muscles are strengthened while neck and shoulder muscles are relaxed. Even at a slow pace, an aerobic workout benefits the entire body. The biggest advantage of this fitness method is that it can be done in any weather. Walks are led by trained instructors, and several Nordic Walking hotels in the area offer “wellness” packages. For further information or to book a training session, contact the Nordic Walking School Montevia, Tel.
