Brewer’s Feast

Is James Bond a tea drinker? Probably not. Tea drinkers, unlike coffee drinkers, do not have a reputation for being debonair and sophisticated. Ordering a cappuccino or a latte macchiato just sounds smoother than asking for, well, a plain cup of tea. If, however, you are addicted to tea but don’t want to be relegated to the dowdy brigade, then it is time to check out the Friesische Teestube. This café was the brainchild of Oswald Telfser and Mac Wilken, who come from South Tyrol and Ostfriesen respectively. More than 20 years ago they decided to open a teahouse somewhere between their two home states and settled on Munich. Located at Pündterplatz 2, in the heart of Schwabing, this café caters to the tea-drinker’s every whim. Ensconced in a comfortable armchair, with gentle jazz music playing in the background, you can choose from 120 varieties of tea. The café, which is open daily from 10 am to 11 pm, also serves homemade cookies, light meals and breakfast.
