July 2002

4th of July

The 4th of July, Independence Day in the United States, will probably go by unnoticed in most Munich households. American expats and their friends, however, will certainly not pass up the chance to celebrate in the Bavarian capital. Do it in real American style by heading to the area’s largest party in Bad Aibling. Live music, burgers, Budweisers and other US specialties as well as a huge firework display are a sure-fire cure for homesickness on this national holiday. For those who wish to celebrate in a less patriotic way, there are plenty of events going on around the city. At Tollwood, fans of 1970s retro music and futuristic pop will enjoy the concert by French band Air. If Independence Day puts you in a more classical frame of mind, the Mozart opera, Die Zauberflöte (Magic Flute), will be performed in the Staatstheater at Gärtnerplatz. The premiere of the ballet flamenco dance production Torero will light up the stage at the Deutsches Theater. Who says there’s no place like home?
