June 2002

On the heels of Munich’s two successful “Long Night” musical events, organizers came up with a new idea. The “Long Night of Books” (“Lange Nacht der Bücher”) will take place, for the first time, on June 15. Buses stationed throughout the city will shuttle participants to over 100 locations, including bookshops, cafés, publishing companies and other cultural institutions. At each bus stop visitors will encounter readings and other book-related events, such as presentations on how a book is made or guided tours through several libraries generally not open to the public. Among numerous highlights will be a poetry slam at the Goethe Forum (Goethestr. 20), featuring top-class artists from Los Angeles and Chicago. The night is scheduled from 5 pm to 1 am and can be continued at Café Dukatz in the Literaturhaus (Salvatorplatz 1) with a party celebrating written works that will go into the wee hours. Tickets can be purchased for € 15 at Munich’s ticket offices. For further information, visit www.langenachtderbuecher.de.
