Copy Cats Beginning September 7, 2001, the Münchner Stadtmuseum’s fashion museum will celebrate the Federal Republic of Germany’s youth, that is, the lifestyle of the 1950s. In a time when the American Dream seemed to embody the ultimate standard of living, German society worked hard to assimilate New World ways. In the nostalgic retrospective, the fashion museum will bring this colorful era back to life—in a most playful way. Petticoats will be displayed next to Hawaiian shirts and peppy print advertising of the decade. A broad selection of 1950s toys, cookbooks and interior decorations will authentically re-create the atmosphere of the rock’n’roll era. Pull out your capris and swing on down to the Stadtmuseum for a look at Nylon and Caprisonne—Das Fünziger Jahre Gefühl Nylon and Capri sun—The 1950s Feeling before February 3, 2002, when the exhibition will make tracks.
