Kino 24 — Continuous films for 24 hours

On April 24 the Gloria Filmpalast at Stachus will become the center of a unique multimedia event — Kino 24. For 24 hours, from 0-24:00, some 25 directors from a variety of backgrounds and artists (from, for example, Munich, London, Dublin, Zurich and New York) will present a continuous program of 60-minute films. What connects these widely different films, all of which are premieres, is the fact that they all make reference to the exact hour during which they will be screened. Given that Kino 24 is no ordinary film festival, the films are only part of the attraction. At the same time, all rooms of the cinema — from the foyer to the bar, even the bathrooms — will function as a stage for numerous activities, such as light and sound installations, live music with DJs, with themes that hint at what is being shown on the screen inside. But Kino 24 goes even beyond the premises of the movie theater, with performances at numerous locations around town. Events include a guided tour of Munich’s public clocks and an “adopt-a-star” program at the planetarium’s observatory. Live projections via Web cam keep visitors abreast of current activities outside the theater. The program, as well as other events, can also be watched on the project’s homepage, www.kino24-online.de.
