Tips from Eric Nelson, US Consult General, and Filippo Tattoni-Marcozzi, Art Adviser

Trattoria Alba Try tasting every pasta dish on the menu—it’s a challenge, but each dish is more delicious than the previous one. A great wine selection and top service... Best followed by a long walk! Oberföhringer Str. 44, Tel. 98 53 53

Seven Fish Wine & Fishbar Sit at the bar and watch the chef prepare the best tuna carpaccio or octopus salad in town. Gärtnerplatz 6, Tel. 23 00 02 19, www.sevenfish.de

Blue Spa at the Bayerischer Hof Enjoy the best view of Munich in your bathrobe! In winter, the open-air “ice bar” on the roof terrace provides a great atmosphere. Promenadeplatz 2–6, Tel. 21 20-992, www.bayerischerhof.de

Excursions: Many of our favorite spots are located outside Munich. When we visit Garmisch-Partenkirchen, for example, we stop by the Almhütte for lunch, dessert or a Glühwein while enjoying a spectacular view of Germany’s highest mountain, the Zugspitze. You can work off the delicious Windbeutel (cream puffs) on nearby trails. It’s located on the southern edge of town, about a 20-minute walk from the US military base, or a five-minute car trip. Maximilianshöhe 15, Tel. (08821) 714 17, www.berggasthof-almhuette.de

Hugo Boss Outlet in Metzingen Hugo Boss is our new top choice for great menswear. It’s worth a trip to the outlet in Metzingen, Baden-Württemberg, where you’ll find some good bargains. Kanal-str. 6–8, Metzingen, Tel. (07123) 94 25 16, www.hugoboss.com

To keep fitting into that Hugo Boss suit: Bikram Yoga , the hottest yoga in town! Exercising at 38ºC is quite exceptional, especially on a rainy Munich day. Don’t worry if you don’t speak German. They will tell you how to stretch in English. Leonrodstr. 6 RG, Tel. 13 01 12 18, www.bikram-muenchen.de/6.html
