Bollywood

This touring extravaganza has suffered the slight misfortune of debuting months after the Bharati spectacular. Despite its wild popularity, many may be loathe to buy another ticket for a similar performance. Indeed, Bollywood features the dazzling costumes and traditional choreography that captivated Bharati audiences. Its storyline, however, is not just the vehicle for the visual attractions, but a historically-grounded narrative. Bollywood follows the story of the Merchant family, who have ruled over the Indian film industry for decades. As actress Ayesha Merchant journeys to visit her grandfather on his deathbed, she confronts the disconnect between traditional and modern India. The Merchant family was active in developing this show with producer Mark Brady. Brothers Salim and Sulaiman studded the musical score with hits from their films, and their sister Vaibhavi developed choreography. The show will run from February 22 to March 18, at the Deutsches Theater. Songs will be performed in Hindi and English; dialogue, in English. Tickets are available through VVK outlets for € 22.45 to 62.
