New Year’s Eve is always a tricky one—where to go? What to do? Here’s our pick of the bunch of fitting ways to spend the last moments of 2005:

MUSIC TO THE EARS

Last Night of the Year — the Munich Symphony Orchestra will present such greats as Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance.” The show starts at 3 pm at Gasteig. Tickets cost from € 34.
• For something with a little less pomp, check out a concert by the Munich Chamber Orchestra at the Prinzregententheater at 6 pm. Featured works will include pieces by Mozart, Schubert and Lanner. Tickets cost from € 36.
• There will be some rousing stuff on offer at Silvester mit Blechschaden, when loveable Scot Bob Ross will entertain the audience with his musical tricks. The concert starts at 3 pm in Prinzregententheater. Tickets cost from € 34.60
• Or celebrate New Year Italian-style with Quadro Nuevo — a concert featuring a variety of tunes from Italy, to be performed at the Herkulessaal. The show starts at 3 pm and tickets cost from € 29.
• For a slightly different musical experience try Viva Voce—Germany’s boy band a cappella group will take to the stage at 3:30 pm at the Allerheiligen-Hofkirche (Residenz). Tickets cost from € 32.
• The original Glenn Miller Orchestra will guarantee a blast from the past with its show at the Herkulessaal der Residenz at 7:30 pm. Tickets cost from € 25.
• Last, but not least, you may prefer to check out the gala performance of the musical Aida, and attend the after-show party at the Deutsches Theater. Curtains go up 8 pm. Tickets cost from € 34.
